The collaborative practice of Edwards+Johann is one that encompasses a broad range of visual arts practices that challenge the boundaries of making and viewing contemporary art. This moving image diptych references the process of creating a portrait and the practice of painting.

The history of European portrait painting and its pacific translations, figure / ground relationships and an investigation of the self is explored through Edwards+Johann's performative role playing. Their peculiar costumes and the interchangeable nature of their characters reveals some essence of being – both other and ourselves - or maybe ourselves discovered through the other...
